The kidneys are vital excretory organs. They remove substances from the blood that the body no longer needs and perform other important functions. How exactly does this process work? At the heart of it are the three main steps—filtration, reabsorption, and secretion—and how they interact. In addition, we’ll explore other functions of the kidneys, such as hormone production.
